Brrrrr! Make the best of these coldddd winter days and put your creative, crafty pants on! There is no time like the frigid to hole yourself up in your apartment home and make some homemade décor. It is also a great way to save some money; we all know how expensive the holidays can be, so spread the love with your gift-giving by DIYing!

Coffee Filter Snowflakes

This is a super simple craft that you can do in any apartment home, from a studio to a penthouse! With minimal cleanup and barely any supplies needed, you can create a beautiful craft in no time!

Items needed: coffee filters and scissors

How to: Take one coffee filter and fold it in half. Fold it in half again so that the rounded edges of the coffee filter line up and it resembles a triangle. Now, it’s time to make it your own. Make cuts all around the edges. You can cut out triangles, make waves, etc. Add variation in the sizes and lengths of your cuts to make them the most intricate. When you are finished cutting, open your coffee filter to reveal a beautiful, one-of-a-kind snowflake!

Extra touches and pro tips: If you have a hole punch, use it to make additional designs in your coffee filter. Also, a little glitter never hurt anybody. After you finish cutting/hole punching, open your coffee filter and sprinkle some glitter all over to bring the sparkle! Take a small brush and use a thin layer of Mod Podge to secure the glitter to the coffee filter. If you make a bunch of snowflakes, you can string them together on fishing wire or yarn to make a garland!

Snowman Door Hanger

Put some pizazz on the front door of your apartment home! A festive door hanger will bring joy to you and your neighbors all winter long. This craft can be customized however you like to resemble anything you would like, but this how-to is going to be for a smiling snowman! Make one for you and one for a friend; these would make an incredible gift.

Items needed: A round wood circle, white paint, pink or red paint, black paint, orange paint, grey paint, pom poms, googly eyes, and paintbrushes.

How to: Take your round wood circle and paint it white all over. Make sure to let it dry all the way before adding the details! You may also need to use multiple layers of white paint so that your snowman isn’t translucent.

Next, use the black paint to paint ovals for the eyes and small black circles that form a semi-circle at the bottom to create a mouth. Paint the eyes in the center of the circle because you will want to give your snowman an enticing hat! Use orange paint to create a triangle for the nose and pink or red paint to give your snowman some flushed cheeks. It’s cold out there, so make them rosy! After the ovals are dried, add in white dots to give your snowman some dimension in his eyes.

Now, for the hat! Paint a line across the middle of the circle directly above the eyes. Fill in everything above that with the same grey. After it dries, use black paint to add curved lines to create dimension in the hat. Use a hot glue gun to glue about 5 or 6 pom poms at the top of the hat to give it some flair and make it look like a true beanie!

Extra touches and pro tips: Feel free to use whatever colors you would like or create any design on your wooden circle! You can find wooden circles at craft stores and supermarkets – I even scored one in the dollar section!

To hang your design on the door of your apartment home, use a command strip, or if you find one with holes, add a string or piece of yarn to let it hang!
