So you’ve just settled into your new Camden apartment home, and you’re wondering how to best set it up: why not make it a reflection of yourself? Each personality has its own preferences and pitfalls, so finding the best decorating solutions for that apartment space can be a breeze if you keep both in mind!

Confused about where to begin? Be sure to check out your Myers-Briggs Personality Type before you start! Whether you’re an imaginative NF, logical NT, spontaneous SP, or structured SJ, I’ve got you covered with ideas for color schemes, décor, and more!

I personally count myself among the NF Idealists of the world (INFJ all the way!) so it only makes sense to begin there!

INFJs

By nature, the INFJ is highly intuitive and one of the most introverted of the MBTI types. As such, they are most comfortable in rooms with subdued color schemes and modest decorations. Deep blues or purples can fit well in the INFJ’s space, especially when combined with neutral tones like black, white, and brown. A few pictures and ornaments for walls and tables will be the best decorating solution for this Idealist.

However, they have to be careful of their particular natures, which crave order and perfectionism in the apartment setting. Having many pieces of visible décor needing constant adjustments will prove very distracting to these Idealists; their unconscious minds are already cluttered enough without adding physical clutter into the mix! Also, be sure to keep a consistent decorating theme, since INFJs tend to find patterns pleasing in the living space.

ENFJs

ENFJs are famous for being among the most gracious hosts, always creating spaces perfect for guests. Due to the emphasis they place on providing a relaxing space, these Idealists find the best colors to be earth tones and rich, warm colors like burgundy and chestnut. Combining these with furniture and décor arranged to create close, social spaces can be a powerful decorating solution for this Idealist!

Although ENFJs are easily the best at creating a comfortable apartment, they have to be careful not to overdo it! Cramming a lot of furniture into one room may accommodate more visitors, but it could also make your guests (and you) feel cramped and over stimulated. Try to find a good furniture-to-space ratio; no more than two-thirds of your apartment space should be occupied by furniture and décor.

INFPs

Of all the Idealists, INFPs are most likely to strike their visitors as eccentrics, both in personality and in decorating. Imaginative and whimsical, they are likely to have very particular (and some would say peculiar) tastes and will almost always crave a unique space for their unique hearts. Use of pastels and other faded colors will serve quite well for this Idealist, especially when paired with subdued abstract pieces hanging from the walls.

The trick to creating the perfect INFP decorating solution is finding a grounding piece. Since they always run the risk of getting lost in la-la land, they should create a focal point in the room to ground them in reality. A mahogany entertainment center would serve this function well!

ENFPs

Like their sister INFPs, ENFPs have extremely particular tastes with almost single-minded wills to make them a reality. Prominent patterns with bright, explosive color schemes will capture that ENFP spirit with ease, especially when they come close to clashing. Pairing blue-with-yellow or purple-with-orange would be perfect to capture the contradictions that seem to make up the ENFP’s mind.

Although an ENFP tends to come off as self-assured, this Idealist is notorious for worrying about what others think of them. For this reason, the ENFP has to be careful to balance their fun-loving, whimsical side with paintings and décor that add a touch of elegance and seriousness. Investing in abstract, minimalist paintings and simple furniture will add a touch of much-needed refinement to the apartment space, keeping the ENFP confident they won’t be viewed as childish.
