Scavenger hunts are the classic game of searching for an item to receive a prize. Who would have thought that adults would love a scavenger hunt? At Camden Fairfax Corner, our Assistant Manager, Samuel, came up with the idea to hide 55 yellow rubber ducks around the community for our current and future residents to find. After a duck is found and brought to the office, a prize is given out. You may choose to use yellow rubber ducks for your scavenger hunt, or maybe another small plastic toy.

Our floor plans include studios, one, two, and three-bedroom apartment homes. Throughout the community, we have several courtyards which have picnic tables, charcoal grills, and benches. Each courtyard is unique, and is beautifully landscaped. Our property was the perfect location for the scavenger hunt.

A happy couple with their scavenger hunt prizes Early in the morning, myself and Samuel took our box of yellow rubber ducks and tried to hide them in creative spaces for the scavenger hunt. The easiest place to hide the yellow rubber ducks was in the grills. We hid them in a bed of yellow flowers. One was hidden in a drainage pipe near the mailboxes. Another was hidden on top of a light in a hallway. We even went so far as to hide a duck in a wreath on a resident’s front door. Our parking garage is six levels, and has several staircases to hide ducks.

The first winners of the scavenger hunt Our residents were so excited about the scavenger hunt, which we called “duck hunt”. We received phone calls and emails asking for hints as to where the hidden yellow rubber ducks were. Residents searched high and low and literally raced to the office to claim a prize. One happy couple spent their afternoon in the sun searching for yellow rubber ducks together, and each got Camden tumblers. We even had residents use the assistance of their children and dogs to find ducks in the community.

They are a great way to bring a community of people together that would not normally be as interactive. As a result, we have seen the competitive side that we never thought our residents had as well as the joy that comes with treasure hunting.
