Hurricane season is upon us, and many cities across the United States have been hit with flooding already this year. Are you prepared in case disaster hits your apartment community? Here are a few tips to make sure you are prepared for a hurricane or a flood.
Be Prepared and Get Ready!
Make sure you have your supplies ready. Start getting everything now before a storm hits instead of when it is imminent. The shelves of your local store will be cleared when a storm is only a few days away. You should have at least ten days’ worth of supplies and check everything off the to-do list below before a storm hits.

Stay Informed and Stay Aware
Camden is now offering an easy way to get emergency texts directly from your community. These texts will allow us to keep you up to date on the storm and how it is affecting your apartment home. Follow the simple directions below to enroll in this fantastic feature. You can choose to opt out of these emergency notifications at any time however, please remember this is the quickest way we can contact all of our residents in case of emergency. You should also keep an eye on your email and MyCamden for any additional updates before and after the storm.

During a hurricane, sometimes our community offices must close for our Camden employees to get home safely. No worries for you though! Our Camden Contact Center is always open! You can reach a Camden associate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our contact center is watching the storm closely and is still able to help answer any questions.
Make sure you have Renters' Insurance
Renters' insurance is crucial to have at all times, but especially during a hurricane or flood. It is simple to apply for and inexpensive. There is no excuse not to have it. Make sure your policy is current and up to date before a storm hits. Your policy should be enough to replace all the items inside your apartment, including electronics, furniture, kitchen supplies, and clothing. Those items really add up! Pro tip: Keep a running list or take pictures of your belongings, especially before a storm, so you know what needs to be replaced. If you have any big-ticket items such as a custom computer or expensive engagement ring – you may want to consider an additional rider on your policy to protect those specific items.
If something happens and you can’t live in your apartment home, your renters' insurance may cover living expenses such a temporary housing and food. This is crucial to have so that you and your family are taken care of.
Just a reminder that Camden’s insurance policy only covers damage to the apartment home itself, not any of your contents inside. Make sure you and your belongings are covered.
Side note: Check to see if your Camden community is in a flood zone. You may need an additional policy to cover flood damage.
