On Monday, December 3, 2018, Camden employees from the Mid-Atlantic area got together for a Camden Cares Veteran Boot Campaign opportunity. This year, the Mid-Atlantic region helped with several projects for a US army veteran and his family in Maryland.
The US army vet and his family have a beautiful piece of land, and a team of 30 Camden leasing, maintenance and construction staff built a vegetable garden, accessible ramp, a pig pen, deck, and other interior projects.

“It was a very successful day for Camden as a whole and for the Meadows family. It was a true blessing watching the selfless acts performed by so many resulting in the culmination of numerous wonderful accomplishments.”, says Duane Canter, Director of Construction.

“Giving back to someone who fought for our country and our freedom is always a great feeling, but when you see the homeowners and their reactions of the work being done is even more rewarding. There was a point I was finishing up and taking in what had already been done and "Melissa" walked out of her house and stopped, noticed her flower bed was cleared out, something I don’t think she had seen in a while and the excitement on her face, over something so simple but something she loved, that’s what this is all about.”, says Christine Thomas, Community Manager, Camden Ashburn Farm.

“So blessed to work for such a kindhearted organization. Using our resources and skills to help a family in need during the Holidays is so rewarding!”, says Kendra Jones, Area Community Manager.

Giving back to others through physical labor is personally fulfilling to me. I was able to help build a pig pen, clean gutters, rake leaves, and rip up old carpet in their home. I enjoyed getting to know the family we were helping and fell in love with their labradoodle puppy, Zepplin.
