This summer I moved into Camden Post Oak, a community in the bustling Uptown, Galleria area of Houston. Houston has recently emerged as a haven for arts and culture, and lately, I have been taking advantage of the central location of Camden Post Oak by exploring some of the top spots that Houston has to offer.  Because there are hundreds of art museums and galleries in Houston, getting plugged into the art scene may feel daunting. Here are some of the must-sees to get you started!

The Museum District 3-for-1

You can find World-class works of art at the intersection of Montrose and Bissonnet in Houston, just two miles from Camden Travis Street and Camden Midtown. If you have even the slightest interest in the visual arts, this area is a must see. Start your day at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston and wander the galleries filled with works by history’s greatest artists. After you’ve worked up a healthy appetite, walk across the street and have a picnic surrounded by art and nature in the Cullen Sculpture Garden. Finish the day by questioning everything you thought you knew about art, after a quick visit across the street to the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston.

The Menil Collection

The Menil Collection is an art museum in Houston, just two miles from Camden Greenway sitting on a gorgeous 30-acre campus tucked away in a residential enclave. The main building houses art and treasures ranging back to prehistoric times. A few steps away from the main building are buildings dedicated to the art of Cy Twombly and Dan Flavin. After a long day of art immersion, you can walk down the street and enjoy peaceful meditation before the massive canvases of Mark Rothko at the Rothko Chapel.

The Rienzi House

If you need some design inspiration for your Camden apartment, and your style happens to be priceless European decorative art, the Rienzi House is the place to go. Located in the beautiful River Oaks neighborhood, the house is an extension of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. The house is on a perfectly manicured four-acre plot and is open for docent-led tours five days a week.
