It's always a good time to get outside and enjoy the fresh air, and one of my favorite things to do in Houston is to visit a local farmers market. Farmers markets are not only a great way to support sustainability and local farmers, but also to grab fresh, locally-grown foods for a healthy lifestyle. Instead of heading to the grocery store the next time your fridge or pantry looks bare, grab your reusable bags, and get out into the community!
If you’re new to Houston, or it’s been a while since you sought out a farmers market, you’re in luck because I’ve done some of the research for you.
Urban Harvest Farmers Market
One of Houston’s longest-running farmers markets is the Urban Harvest Farmers Market. Not only do they have the market, but they also offer educational programs, community gardens, and gardening advice. Urban Harvest is open Saturdays from 8:00 am to noon at 3000 Richmond Ave Houston, TX 77098, and on Wednesdays from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm at 901 Bagby Street Houston, TX 77002.
If you live in an apartment in Houston in Midtown or the Greenway Plaza area, (i.e. Camden McGowen Station, Camden Midtown, Camden Travis Street, or Camden Greenway) you should stop by the Urban Harvest Farmers Market this weekend!
Westchase District Farmers Market
Westchase District Farmers Market features high-quality, locally grown seasonal fresh foods and provides a vibrant community gathering place for the Westchase community. Held every Thursday starting at 3:00 pm, this friendly market features seasonal and regular vendors. Personally, I loved going to this market as a welcome stop during my afternoon commute and made several farmer friends on my weekly visits. Check them out if you live at Camden Holly Springs, Camden Park, Camden Stonebridge, Camden Oak Crest, Camden Whispering Oaks, or Camden Royal Oaks.
The Market at the District, River Oaks, Houston
Launched in January in partnership with the Your Neighborhood Farmers Market Association (YNFMA), the River Oaks District features a great outdoor market with a curated vendor list. Expect a relaxed atmosphere, local farmers and artisans, and a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. The Market at the District is held on the third Sunday of every month, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Residents living inside the loop at Camden Highland Village, Camden Post Oak, and Camden Plaza, this is one to check out!
