There' s a little OCD in each of us, admit it. When it comes to home organization ideas, especially in a more compact space like an apartment home, you have to get creative and elevate your space to keep as much as you can either behind a closet door or off your floors. If you are a parent like me, apparently, jackets, socks and other clothing seem to find their way on my teenager's bedroom floor despite the regular reminders. (Broken record anyone? Oh yeah, right here.) Guess what? Don't give up. I think I have found an ingenious solution. It is THE ingenious solution which is both inexpensive and super simple to add to your home organization toolkit. All you need is to get "hooked up."
Below are the various problems I've tackled in my own apartment home and solutions I'll hook you up with.
Problem: My son loves his hooded sweaters, but he also loves to leave them on the floor.
Solution: I added over the door hooks onto the railings of this bunk bed. Voila! Problem solved. He could hang his unused backpacks, baseball caps, and of course, his hoodies.
Hook up the kids bed rail to keep the bags and rags from ending up as a pile on the bedroom floor.
Problem: Ok so I have a tendency of losing my keys by placing them all over the house. Has that ever happened to you?
Solution: I added a touch of flair to my entry with a multi-purpose rack. Grabbed this one at a local TJ Maxx here in the Otay Ranch neighborhood. I hang keys, dog leashes, lanyards and more! It's great to have it by the door since it's always there on your way in and out.tit
Add a small shelf to your hooks or get one that incorporates one already to display, for example, a flower vase. How trés chic!
Problem: Think all over-the-door hangers are ugly and outdated? Think again.
Solution: Pay a little extra time and money to search Amazon Prime for more unique products that blend function and design. I heart the "color-on-color" technique which contributes to a more minimalistic and clean look. I have lovely white doors covered by a flock of white doves.
Layer on a white over-the-door hanger over a white door for a modern touch.
Problem: I have limited space to take advantage of in the tub for storage and I wanted to avoid the suction cups with hooks because they left nasty rust stains, wore out after constant use or buckled from... a loofah? Yes.
Solution: Again, pay that extra time and money to peruse Amazon Prime for these double-sided shower hooks. These are uber functional! The triple ball bearings slide effortlessly over the shower rod, so no more tugging at the shower curtain. In addition, the double-side hooks gave me double the storage! I could hang my bath towels on one side and loofahs on the other. Not to mention, it kept my teenager from leaving his bath towel around the apartment.
These double-sided rolling shower hooks were an awesome find on Amazon Prime!
These towels from IKEA were ideal. They had their own loops to cinch onto the hooks! Interested in getting hooked up?
