There’s a buzz around the office and it's exciting news for anyone and everyone associated with Camden. So, what’s the buzz about? It’s ESG – Environmental, Social and Governance – non-financial factors that investors are looking at to identify the potential risks and opportunities of publicly traded companies.
Camden has always done a great job in contributing to green living, understanding the importance of a healthy work environment, and the role that leadership takes to bring it all together. So really, there’s nothing new about ESG at Camden. But in 2021, Camden’s ESG efforts were evaluated and measured, and we set goals and targets to monitor improvement and to determine the areas which need the most focus.
Over the next 10 years, Camden will aim for a 15% reduction in energy and water consumption and landfill waste and a 15% increase in electricity procured from renewable resources. To improve upon and maintain a positive culture, a DEI Committee was established, and the CEO Action for Diversity and Inclusion pledge was signed. Additional responsibilities were established and assigned to improve policies and statements for governance goals and so much more!
So why is this exciting news today? Our 2021-2022 Annual Report published the results from our efforts in 2021 and 2022, and they are outstanding! In addition to earning 25 Green Certifications, four of which were earned last year, the environmental goals are on track or in progress of meeting the set targets by 2030. Camden received the 2022 Gold Award from NAREIT for Corporate DEI and earned a place on Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For for the 15th consecutive year!
As a Camden team member, I am so proud to be a part of an organization that continues to be aware of all aspects of life on our planet and strives to constantly improve on efforts to make this world a better place to live. So, if you are a resident, employee, shareholder, or recipient of the generosity from Camden Cares efforts, you can rest assured Camden is an awesome company to be associated with.
