My name is Zachary Martin and I am a senior at the University of Georgia. Before I  began working as a property management intern at Camden Bay in Tampa, I had no idea how friendly and welcoming Camden’s culture is. The more time I spend with Camden, the more I am immersed in an  environment that supports me as an individual and appreciates my contributions to the team. The culture at Camden makes it a great place to work!

Camden believes that taking care of people should be the highest priority of an organization in order for it to be successful. This belief is reflected in Camden’s dedication to their employees’ well-being. There is a reason that Camden is ranked #9 in Fortune’s Top 100 Businesses to Work For®   in 2016! From having fun and wacky events to volunteering in local communities, Camden works hard to make sure they consistently give 100%.

These are the top 5 reasons why Camden’s culture makes it a great place to work!

#1: Positive Work Environment

Camden has a positive professional culture and this has a tremendous effect on the lives of its employees. Because Camden believes taking care of people is their highest priority, employees feel like they are an appreciated and valued part of their team. Camden’s dedication to upholding its values and creating a positive environment shows a commitment to taking care of its employees and residents.

One leasing consultant I spoke to said that she loves her job because her team operates like a family. Camden employees care about each other and this is reflected in everything that they do. During my internship I traveled to several different communities and I noticed that each one has a unique culture and team dynamic. Although the employees are different, each community is dedicated to fostering a culture of trust and respect.  From celebrating birthdays to congratulating life accomplishments, Camden frequently celebrates success.

#2: Fun Activities

Whether it is “Crazy Sock Day” or “Bring Your Dog to Work Day”, Camden employees go all out when it comes to having fun. During these special days, employees take pictures and email them to their coworkers so that everyone can see them and participate. These are really fun because they can turn a regular Tuesday into an exciting, company-wide celebration!

Some special events are exclusive to particular properties, and these are always ones to look forward to. At Camden Bay we have monthly team building activities that have included team trivia and racing our custom built pinewood derby cars! Every Halloween, Camden employees come to work in their wackiest costumes and have amazing parties.

#3: Giving Back to the Community

Camden communities frequently take time off of work to volunteer with local humanitarian groups such as Habitat for Humanity, the Make a Wish Foundation, and local food banks. Camden invests in the communities that it serves. One employee told me Camden’s focus on volunteerism makes her feel like she is a part of something bigger than herself. Volunteering shows Camden cares about the world and this reaffirms Camden’s ideal to always do the right thing. Volunteering is also a great way for employees to bond with the people they see everyday. Camden hires people that are genuine, hard working, and ready to make a difference.

#4: Camden’s Leadership Has Open Doors

My manager at Camden Bay has worked for Camden for 18 years. When I asked her what kept her with the company for so long, she told me it was the culture and open door policy. She felt that Camden’s accessibility and openness to new ideas really helped it be a great place to work. Camden has an open door policy that encourages  employees from all levels of operation to be able to talk to leadership and give feedback on their experiences. Employees at Camden feel like they have a voice within the company. Companies need to be flexible and open to change in order to stay competitive, and Camden’s attitude and policies regarding their employee’s input is essential for that to happen.

#5: Giving Back to Our Residents

Camden’s employees are not the only ones who are loved and appreciated. Camden’s gracious culture affects the residents at our communities as well. At Camden Bay we have had barbecues, wine and cheese tastings, holiday parties, and game nights specifically for our wonderful residents! Also, every week we choose someone to be our Resident of the Week. This person receives a warm welcome in the office and a cookie cake for being residents that promote Living Excellence in our community. Living in a Camden community means enjoying a culture that is supportive and kind. We care about our residents!
